How to Setup Two-Factor Authentication on WordPress Security
WordPress is one of the most popular content management platform among the bloggers, more than 74 million websites depend on WordPress as well 46 million downloads from WordPress.org, so you must be careful about your website security from hackers. here you can learn how to secure and safe your website from hackers with two-factor authentication.
What is Two-Factor Authentication :
Two-factor authentication is use for WordPress additional security while login to your WordPress dashboard, WordPress admin make their security tough by adding two-factor authentication, it becomes difficult for hackers to steal information via adding authentication code or security question during your login session.
Setting up Two-Factor Authentication:
Here you can learn how to add two-factor authentication for your WordPress security, before setting up you must be install a plugins called miniOrange 2-Factor (also knows as Google Authenticator), this plugins is free for one user account, you can add multiple for user account but you should be upgrade to premium version.
Once you activate the plugin you must be register with miniOrange.
After registered with miniOrange you will receive a OTP ( “one time password “) code via email for validation then click to validate OTP.
Then plugin will show you pricing package, you can select Free package, authentication for one user account and then click to Ok, Got it
Then you will see all authentication methods, you can use any of them with different operating devices and backup, i recommend you ( Google Authenticator ) and (Security Question method).
Setting up Google Authenticator:
You must need a smart phone for Google Authenticator method, if you don’t have a smart phone you can choose Security Question method.
Selecting Device for Google Authenticator method:
Then you need to download and install Google Authenticator application in your smart phone for scan “Barcode”, option should available in the application.
Then Scan the Barcode,
Once you have scan the Barcode the Application will show you a 6 digits code add this and then click to Verify and Save. (code will change after every 20 seconds)
Then you will receive a success message, and you should test Google Authenticator first and its Done!
Note: You should be configure Security Question backup method with Google Authenticator method, in case of losing your smartphone, then you are unable to login your wordpress dashboard, so you must be setup security Question method from “Setup Two-Factor” option.
Enter and select your security questions and answers for authentication and click to save, All Done!
Now you will see this validation option while login session in your WordPress dashboard.
